5. What is the relationship between the Race to Zero and COP26?

The Race to Zero will mark the route to COP26, to be held in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, between November 1 and 12, 2021. This campaign seeks to reformulate the methods of innovation and development “in support of a more resilient, inclusive and healthy economy after COVID-19”, as reported by the UN during the launch of “Race to Zero”, on June 5, 2020.

On that occasion, the highest body expressed: “the objective of the campaign is to give a boost to the decarbonization of the economy before the celebration of COP26, through a resounding message sent jointly by cities, companies, regions and investors to comply with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and create a more inclusive and resilient economy”.

Along with the UK COP26 chairmanship, Chile COP25 chairmanship and the UNFCCC, “high-level climate champions” for the UK and Chile, Nigel Topping and Gonzalo Muñoz, will play an important role. active in the implementation of the Race to Zero initiative.
