2. Why is our planet called Earth?
The name Earth comes from the Latin Terra, a Roman deity equivalent to Gaia, the Greek goddess of femininity and fertility, considered Mother Earth, the principal goddess from whom the other gods and the first humans emerged. Our planet could well have been called Planet Water or Planet Life, due to its abundance.
