FAQs about Fracking

4. When was fracking first used?

Injections in the subsoil to extract oil date back to 1860, on the east coast of the United States, using nitroglycerin. In 1930 acids were used instead of explosives. In 1947 the studies for the possible use of water begin. This method began to be applied industrially in 1949 by the company Standard Oil, but it was Mitchell Energy, the company of George P. Mitchell, considered the father of fracking, which achieved the first commercial hydraulic fracturing in as recent as 1998. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has indicated that “the United States will become the world’s largest producer of oil in 2018 thanks to the extraordinary growth of unconventional crude and will soon surpass production in Saudi Arabia.”

Fracking fever, a real threat to Paris Agreement

The failure of the Paris Agreement would be the failure of Homo sapiens. If we do not reverse the increase in global warming and we do not support sustainability on our planet, we will all be losers. There are clear indications that we are going in a opposite direction to the 2015 agreements, as can be seen in this paper. The increasing fever of the fracking, due to the cheapening of the processes of extraction…
