Scarcity, in general, is the lack of some resource to satisfy one or more needs, which may or may not be the key to survival. In the case of water, it is essential for life, to the point that there have even been wars to obtain the precious liquid. Water scarcity is due to the lack of sufficient uncontaminated water resources to meet the demand for water consumption in a region.
