7. How will Net Zero be achieved?

Net Zero means that by 2050 current emissions should be reduced to a point of equilibrium with those that are removed from the atmosphere naturally, mainly due to the action of forests and oceans.

To achieve this objective, roadmaps will be built to reduce emissions from large consumers of energy based on fossil fuels. These sheets include industry, commerce, transport, energy, the financial sector, and the agri-food industry. The aim is to mobilize a large number of companies and cities committed to the race towards net zero emissions to reach the established goals as soon as possible.

“The roadmaps will help identify actions to take for 2021, 2025, 2030, and 2040, to understand the exponential nature of the systemic change driving transformation, and to find initiatives and coalitions that can support this effort,” according to the page Climate Action Pathways, from the UNFCCC.
