Forests and innovation: new solutions for a better world

Every March 21 we celebrate the International Day of Forests, and a theme is selected each year to develop for that celebration. In 2024 it has been dedicated to “Forests and innovation: new solutions for a better world”.

The great advances in innovation and technology have changed our lives in many aspects, and one of them is the evolution of forest control and monitoring systems, which countries now have to effectively monitor their forests and manage information early.

One of the most important aspects for the preservation of forests is the fight against deforestation, and this requires having the advances and innovations that technology provides us.

About 10 million hectares are lost annually due to the disappearance of forests and nearly 70 million hectares of land due to the destruction of fires. By having innovative early detection systems, it will be possible to reduce and combat them promptly, avoiding catastrophes with loss of human life, biodiversity, natural resources, economic assets and much more.

Technical innovations will also enable the production of sustainable wood and raw materials, providing access to climate finance. Programs to restore ecosystems can be maintained, as well as reforestation can be reinforced, which directly impacts the mitigation of climate change and contributes to the ability to improve the food security of people.

From SGK-PLANET we invite you to participate in local activity programs and your communities for the preservation of forests.
