7. What is Italy’s role at COP26?
This year Italy will host a series of preparatory meetings prior to COP26, including the Youth Summit 2021 and the Pre-COP26. Both events will take place in the industrial city of Milan.
“The UK and Italy are committed to putting climate change and the reversal of biodiversity loss at the center of the multilateral agenda in 2021, including through the Presidencies of the G7, G20 and COP26.
As part of this year’s UK-Italy Presidency Partnership, we agree on the need to build back better after the impact of COVID-19. We will work with our international partners, and through our presidencies, in support of a green and resilient recovery that promotes sustainable growth and jobs and provides those most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
We call on all countries to present ambitious nationally determined contributions and establish long-term strategies to achieve net zero emissions well in advance of COP26.
We will leverage our G7 and G20 presidencies to drive COP26 campaigns and help build momentum towards a successful COP26 outcome.
The two countries have promised to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and accelerate the transition to low-emission vehicles.”
