10. What is cast iron or pig iron, and what is its relationship with steel and coal?

The cast iron is the denomination of a product coming from the process of smelting of the iron treated with coke like fuel and limestone like flux. Cast iron is a fundamental raw material in the manufacture of different types of steel. The limestone “is a sedimentary rock formed mainly by calcium carbonate and which is characterized by effervescence by the action of cold diluted acids”.
