FAQS about the Stockholm Conference 1972
5. What are the “7 Proclamations” and the “26 Principles” of the Stockholm Declaration?
These proclamations and principles are born from “the need for common criteria and principles that offer the peoples of the world inspiration and guidance to preserve and improve the human environment” and were issued within the framework of the Stockholm Conference or First Earth Summit.
It consists of two bodies of articles that contain 7 proclamations and 26 principles oriented towards the normalization of the relations of human beings with the environment. This document has been compared to the “Declaration of Human Rights” and has been defined as a response to “the need for common criteria and principles that offer the peoples of the world inspiration and guidance to preserve and improve the human environment.”
These principles were welcomed and incorporated at the Rio-1992 Summit, the Second Earth Summit. In this way, its statements remain valid to this day, although its implementation has been highly questioned.
