FAQs about COP29 Baku 2024

7. Do you know the objectives of the Paris Agreement?

The main objective of the Paris Agreement is to combat climate change in order to limit the increase in global temperature, which was originally set at 2 °C, starting from the pre-industrial era, before the end of the century. However, some time later, countries committed to make additional efforts to ensure that the temperature increase does not exceed 1.5 °C. To achieve this goal, greenhouse gas emissions, caused by the burning of fossil fuels, must be reduced until they are completely eliminated. Through the premise of “Zero fossil fuels”, the aim is to replace these with renewable, alternative or clean energy.
