This Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the 2025 Climate Summit will be held at United Nations Headquarters. This event, convened by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, will address compliance with the Paris Agreement and the state of the fight against climate change.

We have been asking ourselves the question that headlines this article almost since we created SGK-Planet ten years ago, when the Paris Agreement was first presented. Unfortunately, the answer is that we are not complying with this important document, nothing less than the key tool for ensuring the continuity of life on Earth.

Starting January 2025, we will incorporate a section called Climate Criticism, with text, images, and graphs that analyze the failure to comply with the agreements reached at climate conferences. In the second part, we show the Consequences of global warming, which complement this idea.

Despite numerous climate conferences, Earth Summits, Protocols, and Agreements, the Earth’s temperature continue its unstoppable rise year after year. With 2024 being the hottest year on record, Science is already warning us that 2025 will surpase with new record of heat.

What are the expectations for the UN meeting?

In the newspaper El País, (09-22-2025), we read the article by Manuel Panelles entitled “The world is moving away from the Paris Agreement 10 years later: countries remain hooked on fossil fuels,” with which it is impossible not to agree.

This situation is even more worrying , because the main countries leading the violation of the Paris Agreement are determined to continue and increase the extraction of fossil fuels.

COP30 is scheduled to begin on November 10 in Belém, Brazil. It would be wise for the COP to undergo a thorough review, appropriate to current circumstances, with a view to avoiding a major climate crisis in the near future.

Fossil fuel addiction is a true sword of Damocles hanging over life on Earth.
