10. Is the Paris Agreement a consequence of the Rio Summit 1992?<\/span><\/h3>\n

The answer is yes, but in order to reach the Paris Agreement<\/a>, a long road had to be reached, which is approaching to the three decades. The story begins with the creation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), established at the Second Earth Summit, Rio 1992. At that meeting, the Conference of the Parties (COP) was established as the supreme organ of the Convention. Environmental experts, ministers, heads of state and non-governmental organizations participate in the annual meetings.<\/p>\n

COP1 was held in Bonn, Germany, in 1994. COP3 was based in the city of Kyoto, Japan, 1996. Here the famous Kyoto Protocol was born, a promising document that had created enormous expectations for humanity, which had character binding. He was supposed to enter into force at COP15, Copenhagen2009, but China, the United States, India, Brazil and South Africa did not accept that he had binding status, which marked the beginning of the end of the document.<\/p>\n

To replace the Kyoto Protocol, a new instrument was created, the Paris Agreement, presented at COP21 in 2015 in the French capital. It will enter into force in 2020, when the Rio 1992 Conference is 28 years old. Long time wasted.<\/p>\n<\/div>
